What is Community supported Agriculture?

CSAs are a partnership between a local farm and the community of people who buy a “share” of the harvest for the season.  This community of CSA members pay for the produce before the growing season begins, thus helping the farm pay for supplies and seeds to get started.  In return, they receive weekly shares of fresh produce grown on the farm and picked at the peak of flavor.  CSA members agree to support the farm through the season and to share with the farmers both the benefits and risks of growing vegetables, including poor harvests due to weather or pests as well as bountiful harvests during favorable growing conditions.
